Dentistry

Just like humans, pets need proper dental care. Without proper teeth cleaning and examinations, the majority of dogs and cats exhibit symptoms of periodontal disease by the time they are four. Left untreated, it can cause serious health problems including tooth loss and infections that affect major organs including the heart, liver, and kidneys.

At Animalcare Veterinary Hospital we understand that healthy teeth and gums lead to happy, healthy pets. During your pet’s regular wellness exam, we’ll discuss their dental condition and make recommendations for keeping their teeth and gums healthy.

Here are a few signs that your pet has an oral health problem:

  • Bad breath
  • Red or swollen gums
  • Pain while eating, decreased appetite
  • Yellow, brown, discoloured, or loose teeth
  • Pawing at mouth

All significant dental procedures at both our locations are performed under general anaesthesia. We understand that putting your pet under anaesthesia can be worrisome, but we take great care to tailor the anaesthesia protocol to your pet’s age, size, and medical conditions and problems are rare.

Home Dental Care

Dental care does not end with a visit to your veterinarian. You need to continue your veterinarian’s good work at home by brushing your pet’s teeth as part of a home dental care regimen. Any member of the Animalcare Veterinary Hospital team can show you the proper method of brushing your pet’s teeth.
