Pet Emergency

After-Hours Emergency Care

Our emergency number is (876) 897-8188.

Animalcare Veterinary Hospital provides emergency and urgent veterinary care for cats, dogs and birds from the close of regular business to 10:00 pm on regular working days and from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm on public holidays. Our emergency services are reserved for our clients only. There is an emergency surcharge which is significant, so if you think the matter can be addressed in normal working hours you could save some money by waiting. However, if you are in any doubt, we recommend that you treat the situation as an emergency.

What to do in an emergency?

If you know what to expect at our animal hospital, the process will be easier for both you and your pet. Below are the steps you should follow

STEP 1

Call our emergency number

We know that if it’s an emergency and you may be panicking, but you have to contact us in advance. The on-call veterinarian is likely not present at the Hospital and she will need to inform and call in a technician to assist and meet you at the hospital. That may take from 15 -30 minutes depending on the where the veterinarian on duty is located.

STEP 2

Get to our Hospital in Kingston immediately. Our Portmore clinic does not offer an emergency service at that location.

A member of our team will bring you and your pet to an exam room or to an operating room if indicated. If you haven’t done so already, we will ask you to fill out a New Patient Form while your pet is being examined or treated.

STEP 3

Determine Treatment

After your pet has been examined, the veterinarian will develop a treatment plan so your pet will get the best treatment possible. This may be emergency surgery with significant costs attached so never leave home without some form of payment method. You will be given an estimate for the cost to treat your pet and you will be required to pay a deposit.

When treatment is completed, we will make sure your primary care veterinarian is updated with your pet’s medical history to guarantee seamless and integrated care for your pet.
