Relocating to a new home in a different country is stressful enough, without even considering the issues involved in moving with your pet. In fact, discovering and interpreting another country’s import rules and regulations relating to animals can be a major challenge, but is sometimes dwarfed by the hurdles you have to jump to get your pet out of Jamaica in the first place.
Fortunately, Animalcare Veterinary Hospital is in business to take some of the load off your shoulders. We can take much of the pain out of sending or taking your pet(s) overseas, as we know the ropes and to a point we can act as your agent with the Veterinary Services Division. Our aim is to deliver a seamless, stress-free service, with our caring team ready to assist with all the details and documents. If you want your pet to travel and you want to remain sane give us a call and ask for a quotation.
Microchipping
We offer a pet microchipping service as an essential step in exporting your pet. Unlike collars and tags, microchips can’t fall off and they serve as permanent identification for a pet’s entire life. They have to be implanted in pets that are going to travel abroad. However, we want to encourage you to consider microchipping your pet, even if they are not travelling –because if your pet goes for a walkabout in the neighbourhood or wants to make out with the bitch on heat a mile away, and becomes lost or is stolen, microchips are an easy way of identifying your pet and proving ownership. Microchips are rated for 25 years, meaning they never need to be removed or recharged during your pet’s lifetime.
Microchipping a pet is simple, relatively painless and very affordable. Once implanted, a vet only needs to scan the general area where the chip is supposed to be located and your pet’s unique ID will appear on the scanner. The unique number can also, for a small fee, be placed in a central registry along with your information, and if your pet is found and taken to a veterinarian, you may get him or her back before you even know that your pet is missing.
